While our club members can continue to meet virtually utilizing our Comox Valley Probus Club Zoom Account, events are now OPEN and we are able to meet face to face at last! It seems like the past 16 months would never come to an end however here we are hosting our recent membership year end celebration at Fanny Bay Inn.  Great to see all those smiling faces at long last.

Our Events Director Liz Datoo has a number of ideas for upcoming events, including a day trip to Vancouver for the Van Gogh exhibit as well as a play in Chemainus or the Opera this fall in Victoria.  Stay tuned!
Club Activities are one of the main attractions in any club, and ours is no different. We currently have some great activities, but it is always good to keep things fresh by entertaining new interests as well.  Any Probus member can present an idea for an activity.  Any and all ideas are welcome. Outside activity groups have started up and lots of activities are now available.  Our last General Meeting is being held virtually utilizing our Club Zoom Account.  Invitations will be sent to all members.  Beginning in September our club is anticipating resuming meeting at the Westerly Hotel on Cliffe Ave in Courtenay. All members are invited to attend these meetings!

Contact our club if you have any questions.  Our club normally meets the 3rd Wednesday morning at 10 am at the Westerley Hotel on Cliffe Ave and we anticipate starting up at the hotel in September 2021.

We are hosting our August 2021 meeting in a virtual environment utilizing our Club Zoom Account.  Invitations will be sent to all club members with the Zoom invite that you just click and join the meeting virtually.

President's Message

Welcome to the Comox Valley Probus Club. We are a diverse group of retired and semi-retired people who have been meeting in friendship for the past 20 years. New people are very welcome.

We focus upon social gatherings which include exploring the valley on foot or on bikes, visiting gardens, photography and painting, playing games, reading and discussing books, discussing current events, cooking and/or eating together, singing, dancing, and sometimes enjoying truly wonderful trips to plays, the opera, locations throughout the valley and even other countries. Currently, all our indoor activities happen over zoom.

Our general meeting occurs on the 3rd Wednesday of every month currently also on zoom. We discuss the business of the club and always have an interesting speaker. Our next general meeting will be held on June 16th at 10 am on zoom. The link is shared with the members in the week prior to the meeting. Our June speaker will be Harry Pinder who will be sharing a wonderful power point of Harry and Dianne’s adventures/home in Ecuador.

2021 is the 20th Anniversary of our Charter being received from Probus Canada. We have been celebrating our members this year with one member featured as our speaker each month. February, Liz Datoo shared a story of her adventures kayaking. In March, Jane Kerr presented a power point on soft scaping in our gardens. Our April speaker, Danny Bereza shared stories from his early adventures as a bush pilot in northern BC. In May, Tony Brett shared a story from his years as a Voodoo pilot and an almost tragic accident he witnessed at the Abbotsford air show.

Other highlights of this year have been our wonderful car rally organised by Dianne Pinder. Solving the clues she sends out and then finding the locations in the valley is always an adrenaline rush. She has currently set up a Treasure Hunt for us, releasing clues weekly and allowing us one yes or no question each.

We have also all enjoyed the cooking classes shared over zoom. Liz’s Indian dishes; Cherie and Dick Clancy’s seafood feast; Marsha Nelson’s delicious lemon chicken piccata and soon something wonderful from Tim Rabbit.

We have now received the opening plan from the PHO. The executive will be planning in person activities again, including a July picnic and a neighbourhood stroll. With luck we will be able to connect at our meetings at the Westerly by September. In the meantime plans are happening to create opportunities for connection.

You are very welcome to join us and meet all the new friends that await you here.
Take care. Stay well.
