Our Events Director Liz Datoo has a number of ideas for upcoming events. Now that things are opening up stay tuned for event planning!

Pacific Opera Opening Feb 2022
First Opera of the year will be Carmen in February
Second Opera Don Giovani in April
No posted date or times yet however these two Operas are two of the most popular of all the operas.  If you have not been to an opera, these two are crowd pleasers.  Both great operas especially if you are signing up for the first exposure to this art form.  Sign up at General Meeting on Wednesdays.  Day Trip from Courtenay!
Club Activities are one of the main attractions in any club, and ours is no different. We currently have some great activities, but it is always good to keep things fresh by entertaining new interests as well.  Any Probus member can present an idea for an activity.  Any and all ideas are welcome. Outside activity groups have started up and lots of activities are now available.  Our General meetings are now being held at Crown Isle Golf Club.  All members fully vaccinated are invited to attend these meetings!

Contact our club if you have any questions.  Our club normally meets the 3rd Wednesday morning at 10 am
at Crown Isle Golf Club on Crown Isle Blvd in Courtenay.  We continue to provide Zoom access to meetings for those unable to attend in person.

President's Message

Welcome to the current President’s Message. The life and times of all of us have changed!  This is November 2021, and we have been on line and meeting virtually for the last 18 months via Zoom.  We must give Past President Denise Evans and her Team a huge vote of thanks for keeping the Club members connected and in social contact virtually.  Many of the in-house groups, like the book clubs, managed to adapt themselves to being virtual.  Some of the outdoor clubs, Kayaking for instance, continued to operate unchanged.  But some of our activities were put on hold and are just now coming
out of hibernation!  I’m thinking particularly of our Neighbourhood Walks, which are starting up again under the leadership of Karin Franzen.
While the Zoom link is still available to members, we are beginning to have our General Meetings in person.  It happens on 17 Nov 21 this month, and while we are still keeping our distance from each other, and wearing our masks, it’s absolutely worth the inconvenience of both of those things to be able to socialize properly, see the ‘body language’ and so on.  Fairly soon, a ‘Full Vaccination’ will mean two full shots of vaccine and a booster.  But most of us have had two shots and are getting close to the end of our six months, so the odds of getting REALLY REALLY ILL are diminishing fairly rapidly.  But we still need to be vigilant - we still have the variants of Covid to deal with!  Masks and 6ft. of separation will be around for quite a while - don’t skimp on either!
In spite of the separation required to meet in person, we still have room in our Club for new members.  Our yearly dues are $85.00 per person, which seems to be considerably higher than the other 3 Clubs in the Valley.  However this covers the rental of the big Ballroom at the Crown Isle resort, and the coffee, pastries etc that go with 10 meetings that happen on the THIRD Wednesday of each month with the exception of July and December.  We also have a variety of speakers, and thus learn something new at each meeting!  We do NOT have to make coffee or move furniture, and I don’t know anywhere in the Valley where you can get such good company in a lovely setting, listen to a fine speaker and leave the dishes behind for the grand price of $8.50/person.  There is a Contact section elsewhere on the website if you have queries about us.  We would be happy to hear from you.
At the moment, we are looking forward to an in-person Christmas Party this year, and to opening up even more after Christmas!  If you are a ‘snowbird’ and flying away for a while, DO Keep Safe.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
