Jane Murphy - The Speaker

Joan Boase introduced the speaker for the evening, Jane Murphy,

who is the President and CEO of the St. Joseph Hospital.

Jane began her talk about the new hospital which is a part of the

North Island Hospital projects. The new Comox Valley

Hospital provides a great opportunity to address acute care in

Courtenay and the surrounding districts.

Accompanying Jane were many slides to illustrate the uses for

each section of the hospital. One of the design features of the

hospital is to capture the natural light coming in to the

building.

Jane then discussed the transition of patients from St. Joseph's to

the new hospital and how Island Health and St. Joe's are working

closely together to make this a calm and successful change for

patients and staff.

Jane then continued with an outline of how The View will be used.

The View is devoted to senior care and has 117 in residence with

a four bed hospice.

The speaker concluded her talk by outlining the activities The View

offers and stated the goal is a sense of living rather than just living

in an institution.

Many questions by the members followed and Jane answered them all

with qualifying answers stating that many concepts are still works in

progress.

The speaker was thanked by Liz Dawson and a thank-you envelope

was provided. The club will be issuing a cheque, which will be

going to the speaker's charity choice

Spa Day at the Kingfisher … Let’s do it again J
Joan’s comments following this event …  "it was great to see new acquaintances getting to know each other better and seeing those who have known each other for a long time sharing time and conversation.  It was so much what PROBUS is about --- fellowship and fun.  AND it was easy to arrange!"

And kudos to Bent Harder for joining us!

Do you have an Idea for An Event?

Please talk to Liz or any other member of the Executive Team.  We’d be happy to work with you to make it happen.
