Next Meeting
Our next meeting is slated for Wednesday January 18 at the usual place.

Joan Boase has lined up another great speaker:

Our speaker for January 18 is Jason Beck, curator of the BC Sports Hall of Fame.  He and his wife are coming from Vancouver for his presentation.

Jason will discuss and tell stories of the Miracle Mile, run in Vancouver during the 1954 Commonwealth Games.  He also will read from his  recent book, The Miracle Mile, and he will bring copies  for those who would like to purchase one.

January Meeting

It seems like a long time since our last meeting so am concerned that we may be a little hazy on some of the faces we see so to make sure we get behind the right leader I would post his pic to make sure we were all on the right track.

November Meeting
Remembering our November Meeting was rather vague with all that has happened since so I thought it was important enough to post a commentary of the minutes prepared by Sandra Gray:

ANNOUNCEMENTS: President Bob Thiesburger paid tribute to

Ollie Acorn, who passed away recently. Per

custom, the Club will contribute a $50.00 cheque

in her name to the Stroke and Heart Association.

Bob Thiesburger called for replacements for Danny Bereza and Tim Rabbitt who are

fulfilling positions of Web Master and Membership Director in a temporary

capacity.

Bob also mentioned the formation of a bike club which will start in May and it will need

a director as well. Please consider being a leader for this.

INTRODUCTION OF NEW MEMBERS:   Bill Otto by Mark Tapper

Heide May by Sig Jensen

Christine Dickinson by Barb Morris

GUESTS: One guest for the meeting today.

DIRECTOR REPORTS:

Speaker Program: Joan Boase stated that the January speaker will be Jason Beck from

Vancouver. He wrote the book: The Miracle Mile, which examines a part of Vancouver

and BC's sports history. Jason is curator at BC Sports Hall of Fame as well as its facility

director.

Membership: The 2016-17 Roster is available. Please see Tony Brett for your copy.

Tony was given a large round of applause for taking on the task of producing the Roster

once again.

Tim Rabbitt Director, spoke of the 2 Stars & a Wish Survey completed this year which

showed that the members looked mostly for fellowship, activities and speakers. Tim

stressed how important it is to mingle with other members and to that extent there will

be a contest.

Those of the membership who can show a signature or initials of fellow members in the

Roster beside the name will have their own name entered into a draw for an unidentified

“fabulous” prize. Only one contestant per household please.

Tim also stated that the Club had business cards printed and they are available on the

tables. These are cards which members should use to help introduce new people to our

Club. Applications forms are available at the entrance to this room.

Social Director/Clubs and Activities: The current Clubs Report was made available to

the membership present by Liz Datoo. There are signup sheets for events for members

to complete if they wish to join the various groups. Liz would like more activity

suggestions from the membership. A copy of the report is attached to these Minutes.

Jim Boase spoke for the Bridge Club which will meet at the White Spot Restaurant for

bridge and a Christmas dinner. This year there will be even more tables for avid players.

In addition, Jim has tickets for the annual Choral Society available for purchase. Please

see Jim regarding either event.

Newsletter: Al Good mentioned that this is the 5th annual Orphans Christmas dinner at

Crown Isle. The cut off date for signing up will be December 15th after that spaces will

be open to other Probus club members.

Ian Parsons requested from the members that they submit photos and write ups of

activities they are involved in for publication in an email from Al to the membership.

Many of our club members are absent or not using ClubRunner so doing a brief

newsletter of events would keep everyone advised of our club news.

Treasurer's Report: David Pendlebury provided the report to the membership and a

copy of which is attached to these Minutes. Checking Account has $3,861.58 and

Savings Account $12, 282.79 plus $50.00 cash on hand.

Speaker: This month's speaker, Roger Griffiths, was introduced by Joan Boase.

Roger wrote the book: The Adventures of Five Old Mountain Men. His lighthearted

talk was accompanied by a slide show of trips through the BC wilderness. Such an

engaging and humourous speaker.

DRAW PRIZES: Went to Sig Jensen and Ivan Curry.

Bob Thiesburger reminded the audience that there would be no General Meeting for the

month of December as the Christmas function will be held in its stead. He reminded the

group that there will be a meeting here at the Westerly, January 18th 2017. We will be

honouring Robbie Burns and Bob suggested you wear your best kilt as there will be a

kilt inspector on hand. This will be done only to confirm its length from the hem to the

floor.

The meeting ended at noon with Bob wishing everyone a safe journey home.

Passing of Louise Plewes
                                                    Member picture
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Louise Plewes:

Sad to announce that Louise Plewes, a Life Member of our club, passed away on December 30th, in her 107th year.
Her daughter Marilyn and granddaughter Karen were at her side.
One of her favorite sayings was "at my age peer pressure is not a problem".
We should all have such a sense of humour.
