2019-2020 had many exciting events planned however due to COVID-19 we have suspended all face to face gatherings with large groups however small groups are meeting face to face following COVID-19 protocols while others are meeting virtually utilizing our Comox Valley Probus Club Zoom Account.
Club Activities are one of the main attractions in any club, and ours is no different. We currently have some great activities, but it is always good to keep things fresh by entertaining new interests as well.  Any Probus member can present an idea for an activity.  Any and all ideas are welcomed. Unfortunately we have had to cancel most indoor activities until further notice due to COVID-19 however some groups have been creative and meet virtually. Outside activity groups are starting up on a limited basis in accordance with the Safety Plan now available. Contact the Executive Committee if you are looking for more information on this exciting start up plan.  We can’t wait to get back together as a large group in person but our focus is on staying strong and healthy so social distancing is a priority. Our General Meetings are being held virtually utilizing our Club Zoom Account.  All members are invited to attend these meetings!

Contact our club if you have any questions.  Our club normally meets the 3rd Wednesday morning at 10 am at the Westerley Hotel on Cliffe Ave. We have suspended face to face large group meetings due to COVID-19 and hope to resume in due course, depending on the Government and Health safety guidelines for large group meetings. We are however meeting in a virtual environment utilizing our Club Zoom Account for large groups as well as small groups.  Join us every month! Stay strong and stay safe!

President's Message

Denise Evans, President

Peter and I were sponsored by Paul Beaulieu only 2 years ago and I am so glad that he did. The friends that we have made in the Comox Valley Probus Club are one of the major reasons for our happiness in our new home. I feel very fortunate to have met such a welcoming, warm group of people.
I realise that becoming President of the club 6 months into a global pandemic has challenges, but I think that the purpose of the club to facilitate connection, fun and friendship is actually more important now that ever before. I am happy to announce that our executive team is almost complete. Darla Petryk has volunteered to take over from Liz as our treasurer.  So with Carol as PP, me, Peter as Secretary, Marion Brett as our VP and Darla as Treasurer, Jean Douglas as Member Director, and Liz Datoo as Activities and Events, we have a great group of people. We do still need a Speaker Director, 2 Webmasters and a Newsletter Editor, so if anyone is interested in any of those roles, please let me know.
Shutting down our meetings was the correct action in March, but it is time to think about reconnecting in ways that are safe and adhere to our new policy. Our team is working hard behind the scenes to make this possible. We will be moving our general meeting to the zoom format. So put the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 10 am back into your calendars. You will receive the zoom link in the week prior to the meeting. The format of the meeting will be similar to our in-person ones. Pour a cup of coffee or tea, get a treat, click on the link and join in to find out what we are up to and to listen to the speaker of that day.
The zoom account can also be used by anyone who wants to convene a group. Page Turners book club is already using it, as is the executive for our meetings. Just let me or Liz know if you need the login information and we will send it to you.
We are also working at starting up small (6 or fewer) in-person activity groups that will meet outside. Harry and Dianne Pinder have offered to convene an electric bike group. Hiking and walking groups are also possible if anyone is able to convene one. We already have protocols that we can use to make sure that these groups meet safely. The writers’ group has met twice over the summer and will recommence soon. But if anyone has ideas for any other group that they think might work, please let me or Liz know.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on October 21st at 10 am.  In the meantime, you are welcome to call, text or email me at any time.  Take care, stay safe.
